Yes, it is safe to receive acupuncture if you have low platelet counts.

No, acupuncture is not known to interfere with cancer or pain medications. In fact, it is widely used in oncology as a complementary therapy to manage symptoms and side effects, and can sometimes reduce the need for pain medicine.

You do not need formal permission to start acupuncture. However, we are strong believers in a team approach to your care. With your approval, we will gladly communicate with your oncology team to keep them informed about your acupuncture plan. Our goal is to be a supportive part of your whole healthcare team.

The sensations from acupuncture vary widely from patient to patient and treatment to treatment. Some patients feel absolutely nothing, or a very light pressure. Other patients experience sensations that can range from a dull, achy sensation to tingling or throbbing. These sensations, known as “Da Qi” in Chinese, can be easily adjusted for each patient.
Your first visit begins with a detailed assessment to determine the root cause of your condition. Based on this, Dr. Barnett will carefully select and explain the best therapies for you. While there are acupuncture points all over the body, we most commonly use points on the arms and legs below the elbows and knees. Most treatments are done while you are comfortably seated or lying face up on one of our memory foam beds. In fact, most of our patients find their acupuncture session to be the most relaxing part of their day!
We do not accept health insurance directly. However, we are happy to provide you with a detailed receipt (superbill) that you can submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. 
While the number of sessions needed varies for every patient, Dr. Barnett uses his extensive experience to provide you with a detailed prognosis and treatment plan. This plan will outline what results to expect and when. Some patients feel improvement after just one visit, and most people see significant results within 4 weeks of consistent treatment.
